Is The iPad Worth It?

The iPad Tablet is a small flat computer that is in tablet form. It has a touch screen operating system and is used much in the same way as the iPhone. It is a much bigger system, about the span of an open book. This is convenient because one of its main uses is as an eBook device, which allows users to download text onto the screen and read it like a book. It is much like the Kindle product made by Amazon.

The iPad will be available to buy by the end of March, 2010. Orders have started since the product was officially released and it has sold thousands in the first month. This is because its first major appearance anywhere in public was when it was used on stage at the Grammy Awards. The host read the winner from it.

From behind it looks like a small, closed Apple laptop. From the front, it looks like an iPhone five times its normal size. It has no keyboard or mouse that come with it, though it is very sophisticated technology that is able to play music, record sound, use almost all current Macintosh programs for computer and phone, connect to the web, download many different types of files, and make phone calls.

It weighs just a pound and a half, which is amazing considering its memory and battery capabilities. It connects to WiFi. On the outside, it is easily the simplest of modern Apple products. There is only one USB port and one headphone jack. There are speakers and a microphone built in. That is it.

The reason for its big debut was the fact that Apple has been working on it for seventeen years. Many people thought it would never be ready and would eventually just fall to the side and be forgotten. January 2010 was the big press conference which revealed that it was headed to shelves. Due to all the hype, it has generated amazing sale numbers.

Its price starts at a staggering five hundred dollars, which has not slowed sales at all. This is purely for the tablet itself, not for any accessories. You can buy a mouse or keyboard to plug in if you wish, in addition to other normal computer accoutrement. Though sales are through the roof, critics wonder at the few features offered on the iPad. They may be offered as part of an upgrade package later. There is currently no video camera, nor can you run more than one program at a time.

The name has certainly created some waves and has had a lot of talk about it. Some have laughed at it due to its hygienic connotations. Others were upset that the iPad was not a name originally owned by Apple. There was another project in the works named iPAD, though the name was abandoned for something else. Apple then used it, though it is unclear if the rights to the name belong to the original user or not. It will be difficult for Apple to change it now, though, since it is ready to go out to stores.

Lawyers on both sides have debated over whether or not a lawsuit should even happen. The contesting of the name may be confusing and it is difficult to tell who would win if such a confrontation occurred. Any lawsuit would not lower sales, though it may take a little longer for customers to get the product if they have to go back to the factory to have the name on the back changed.
