The Beatles Rock Band Review

If you are like me then you probably do not spend much time playing video games. I actually kind of hate video games to be honest. I think of them as a total waste of time. So why am I spending my time writing about a video game? Because in my view The Beatles Rock Band is more than just a game, it’s a truly interactive musical learning tool.

I am not really talking about the guitar thing. I actually think that part of the game is lame because it has nothing to do with playing real guitar and very little to do with the songs you’re playing. It has nothing to do with guitar playing because playing a real guitar is about one hundred times harder than simply pressing a few buttons and it has little to do with the songs because I have found that the changes in the game rarely change at the same time as any musical changes in the song.

The drumming and the singing parts of the game are what I find really interesting and important. These aspects are directly related to doing these things “in real life” and the relationship to the music is also far more direct.

If you sing a song in tune and in time then you will do well. It’s true that you do not have to sing the lyrics (you can just hum) but so what? What matters is the timing and hitting the right notes. I think The Beatles Rock Band is actually a really great way to improve your singing abilities. This is even more true with The Beatles Rock Band than with other Rock Band games because it includes harmony singing too.

When you drum on the expert level you are really hitting every single drum hit that is in the real recording! No, it’s not just like playing real drums, but it is close enough to be pretty effective for practicing. In fact, I’ve heard of people moving quite smoothly from playing Rock Band drums into playing real drums.
